About Us
Our Mission: We at First Presbyterian Church are a caring Christian community. We come together to worship God, study the Bible, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and equip each person for spiritual growth and service
First Presbyterian is a church where you can grow spiritually and find opportunities to serve God and our neighbors in the company of loving friends. We worship in both traditional and contemporary contexts, and provide many occasions to learn and work together. We welcome people from all walks of life, with different lifestyles and various religious backgrounds. Some of us have been Presbyterian all our lives, but many have entered our fellowship from other denominations and faiths. Our congregation is made up of families with two parents, single parents, and singles, old and young. We celebrate the variety and wonderful gifts that each person brings as we seek to grow together in our faith. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of the Presbytery of Central Nebraska.
How can I become a member?
Talk with the pastor. New member classes are offered several times a year. It is also possible to transfer your membership from another church.
Those who join the church are asked to affirm
- Their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord;
- That they trust him and intend to be his disciple, obeying his word and showing his love;
- And their intention to be a faithful member of this congregation, giving of themselves in every way as they seek the fellowship of the church.
Who are we?
We are Christians. We believe that we belong to God, and we trust the triune God, who created us, redeemed us and is with us leading us in the future. We believe that God has revealed God’s self to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
We are Presbyterian. We are a church founded on the concept of democratic rule under the Word of God. We believe that each person is called to work out his or her beliefs based on two primary sources of authority—first, the Scriptures and second, the historic creeds and confessions of the church. We are governed by elders elected by the congregation and we are connected with other Presbyterian churches, through the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly.
We celebrate two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion
In Baptism, we affirm that even before we know it or can respond, we belong to God. God’s forgiving love is given to us freely and is not something we can earn. A person may receive the sacrament of baptism as an infant or as an adult.
In Communion, we are made one with Christ and Christ’s body, the church. In the Presbyterian service of Holy Communion, the participants usually pass the bread and wine from person to person—a unique symbol of each person serving as a priest (servant) to each other person. We believe that each Christian has direct access to God through worship, prayer, personal confession, and the study of Scripture.
We are reformed, always reforming: This means we are evolving and growing in our discovery of who we are, and who God is calling us to be. We seek new ways to be faithful as we work together for a better world.
