Why This Christian Preschool?

Our goals are to help children develop a good self-image from a religious base, to make each day rich and stimulating for the children and to help children in our community who have particular needs.

Philosophy

Children do indeed learn by doing. They learn best through the use of their five senses. We provide a wide variety of "Hands On" experiences and developmentally appropriate learning materials. All learning is under the direction of Christian teachers in a loving Christian environment.

Program

Children develop social skills while in Dramatic Play. Centers for dramatic play and role-playing help a child progress from playing alone to sharing and working together.

Children hear Bible Stories which teach them that God loves and cares for each of us and how we are to share that love with each other.

High quality blocks and toys promote problem solving, confidence, language development and offer the children challenges.

We use many manipulative to improve eye-hand coordination, discrimination and find motor skills. They teach the basic concepts of size, shape, color and design, and math concepts. Manipulatives provide many opportunities for counting and number recognition.

Language development is encouraged through listening activities, story telling, puppets and self-expression.

We study science and nature while experimenting and observing the wonders of God's creation.

Children are exposed to singing, listening and responding rhythmically to music.

We encourage love for books and reading with daily book check-outs from our Preschool Library. A book bag is given to each child to encourage and promote proper use and care of books. Books are read to the children each class session.

All activies provide opportunities for building self-esteem.

Creativity is promoted as children express themselves through a wide variety of arts and crafts media.

Our curriculum focuses on the following skills:

Reading Readiness

There are two qualified teachers per class. We encourage individual time with teachers. Our pupil/teacher ratio is 7 or 8:1, and often is 5:1 because of our excellent volunteer help.

Facilities

Butterfly Room             Fish Room            Rainbow Room

All rooms are large, bright and cheery. Each has a large Bible-story mural on one wall. We use the large Fellowship Hall for games in winter. A small kitchen is available for cooking, and other rooms are used for special activities.
Our outdoor playground and spacious back lawn are available for large motor activities.

Snacks

Our snack program is a vital part of our uniqueness. Parents provide ingredients for snacks about two times per semester. A child's self-esteem is fostered when he or she brings the snack for the class.  This also enables us to prepare many of the snacks in class.  Snack-time is an educational experience.  We discuss shapes, colors and textures. Snacks can teach Bible stories, nutrition, science, math, colors, alphabet, prayers, sharing and table manners.

Parents

  • A Preview Preschool visit will be scheduled in August before school begins (after Labor Day).  This will be a time for the Parent/Child/Teacher to get acquainted and see the classroom.
  • A Parent-Teacher conference will be scheduled for each child after the completion of the first semester.  Special conferences may be scheduled when there is a need.
  • Parents are welcome to visit classrooms at any time.

Transportation

We strongly urge parents to form car pools with others living nearby.  We will be happy to try to locate other parents in your area.

Extended Care

We do provide early care for children whose parents need to be at work by 8:00 a.m. Children may be brought to the Preschool by 7:30 a.m. for an additional daily charge. This service is offered for children who attend morning preschool.
